Coronary artery disease
Narrowing of the arteries that supply the heart, the commonest cause of heart attack.

Overview
Fatty plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries and limits blood flow to the heart muscle. It may cause chest pain on exertion, or a heart attack if a plaque ruptures.
Tests include ECG, echocardiography, a treadmill test and coronary angiography. Treatment ranges from medicines and lifestyle change to angioplasty or bypass surgery.
Symptoms
- Chest pain or tightness on exertion
- Breathlessness
- Unusual tiredness
- Pain spreading to the arm, jaw or back
Causes
